Template:Post-nominals William “Billy” Connolly (born November 24, 1942) is a Scottish comedian, singer, presenter, and actor. He is sometimes referred to as “The Big Yin” in his home country of Scotland (“The Big One”). His initial job was as a welder (particularly, a boilermaker) in the Glasgow shipyards in the early 1960s, but he left towards the end of the decade to pursue a career as a folk singer with The Humblebums and then as a soloist.
He transitioned from folk musician with a comic character to full-fledged comedian in the early 1970s. Water (1985); Indecent Proposal (1993); Muppet Treasure Island (1996); Mrs. Brown (1997), for which he was nominated for a BAFTA; The Boondock Saints (1999); The Last Samurai (2003); Timeline (2003); Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events (2004); Garfield: A Tail of Two Kitties (2006); Open Season (20) (2008). In The Boondock Saints II: All Saints Day, Connolly resumed his role as Noah “Il Duce” MacManus. In the 2010 version of Gulliver’s Travels, Connolly plays the King of Lilliput. In Pixar’s Brave, Connolly performs the voice of King Fergus (2012).
